Debby King-Rowley

Dr Debby King-Rowley has worked in global leadership development for over thirty years. During this time, she has created and implemented innovative executive programs that achieve organisational goals coupled with individual development.
As an internal consultant, Debby headed several learning and development organisations. Working as the Director of DMSE (National Diffusion Network, US Department of Education), Debby led a small team deployed on a national basis to drive wide-ranging organisational change in public school policy and implementation. While the Global Director of Executive Education for Motorola, Debby worked with the CEO and VPs on several leadership initiatives including Six Sigma and a series of action learning projects to implement growth strategies in China, Eastern Europe and the USA. Her work with action learning has been documented in such publications as Practical Programming in Continuing Professional Education and The Learning Edge. As the founding General Manager of Telstra’s Centre for Leadership, Debby worked with the CEO to leverage the Centre as a primary change agent in Telstra’s transition from a wholly-owned government telephone company to a commercialised communication services provider.
As an external consultant, Debby works primarily in the areas of leadership development, change management and instructional design. Debby spends much of her time working with people who have been deeply trained in a technical discipline (science, medicine, law, engineering and accounting) and who are transitioning into leadership roles that require new skills and behaviours.This work is carried out through executive coaching, retreat and board room facilitation, action learning team support, and classroom teaching. Debby has worked with clients in Australia, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and the USA.
Debby was architect and an inaugural Board member of IKD (Australia) and is now one of their Associates. Debby is also an associate of several academic institutions including Melbourne Business School and Duke CE. Debby is a qualified MBTI, Leadership Versatility Index (LVI) and Leadership Circle (TLC) practitioner. She is certified by ExperiencePoint (Canada) to conduct change management and design thinking simulations.
Debby has served on the Vincent Fairfax Ethics in Leadership Foundation Board, the International Board of Standards for Training, Performance and Instruction (ibstpi) and was a member of the Florida State University Instructional Design Alumni Council.
Debby holds an undergraduate degree in Experimental Psychology from Lipscomb University, and a Masters and a Doctorate in Instructional Systems from Florida State University.
